Barefoot construction work?

BAREFOOT CONSTRUCTION WORK???

Almost Barefoot  doesn't make any recommendations for or against....it's your choice whether you do construction barefoot!

But we do share the pictures, thanks to Barefoot Mick Lessard and the Society for Barefoot Living.

Laying this rock was a primal pleasure as it fell into the perfect place at the top of our newly barefoot built stairwell.

Barefooting in the new season

The earth is starting to cool, making barefooting a more significant experience.

By this time, we've come to taking barefooting for granted in summer. It's warm out, so we just do it. Nothing wrong with that!

But with the change of the season, we're invited to feel, once again, the significance we felt when we first took to going sans shoes outdoors.

Feel the cool ground tonight and again tomorrow morning, Savor it and be reborn to your natural connection with the Earth.

Barefooting for meaning-"It's more than just taking off my shoes" -Barefoot Angie Bee

Barefoot Angie Bee is an ordinary woman, and as we look at her life, that's what makes her rather extraordinary.

"Barefoot running is a philosophy.  Its more than just taking off my shoes" says Angie, who also practices Yoga.

Barefoot running and walking has a way of re-connecting us to the pulse of the Universe, and then we start to remember what matters.

" Its a way of looking at things clearly instead of muffled by shoes or any other kind of cover up we might have for ourselves.  I strive to learn and grow and try to accept myself as the whole person that I am now, past, present, and future," Aggie says.

"In June of 2009 I began barefoot running after suffering from chronic lower back pain and shin splints.  I ditched the shoes and have never had back problems again.   I ran a barefoot marathon as well as many other race distances  barefoot.  Its is very joyful and fun to do.  I started running to cope with every day stress that goes with mothering and life in general. "

Angie is a mother of four boys, one of who, has autism, and wife to a firefighter. She now coaches other runners as well.

Almost Barefoot salutes this ordinary, amazing woman, not only for running barefoot marathons, but for reminding us of how much we can be. Learn more about her, and we will surely learn more about ourselves, and in a positive way.

Barefooter extraordianaire-Barefoot Angie Bee

Barefoot Angie Bee is a runner, Yogini, wife, and mother.

She's been running sans shoes for a long time. Angie is an inspiration!

We'll have more to say soon.

Coach Michael Sandler back up and running already!

My progress continues! Two days ago Jessica took me out on a spectacular bamboo forest and waterfall hike with a wooden plank creek crossing (flashbacks - yikes!) a short rope climb, and even a wooden ladder between two falls. I was very intimidated just taking my first step off of the road and onto the trail (a steep decline to the bamboo forest floor below), but I kept putting one foot in front ...of the other and believing in myself.

Two days ago Jessica took me out on a spectacular bamboo forest and waterfall hike with a wooden plank creek crossing (flashbacks - yikes!) a short rope climb, and even a wooden ladder between two falls. I was very intimidated just taking my first step off of the road and onto the trail (a steep decline to the bamboo forest floor below), but I kept putting one foot in front of the other and believing in myself.

To keep me safe, I fashioned two walking sticks out of felled bamboo trees. It worked perfectly and though I was slow, it was truly a miracle hike. We're ten days off crutches now, and though I waddle, I'm incredibly grateful. My next step is to work on my significant limp, which means working on joint strength and flexibility. With new hardware in the hip and by the knee, both joints are quite unstable, but that's only a temporary state.

In other news, my meditation's been going great. After a near-death experience, expanding my spiritual practice means A LOT to me. Every day I'm waking with a sunrise meditation, then taking a break mid-day to quiet the mind, and ending with a sunset meditation as well. The more I quiet the mind, the healthier, happier, and more connected I feel.

And through meditation, I've been learning so much!!!

Keep shining everyone, and enjoy a magical new day. Each moment is a new chance to shine, to reinvent ourselves, and connect with the love that's inside and around each one of us. No Matter What!!!

Photo - After nearly 2 hours on the trails, I'm still going strong!

Best barefoot shoes-Berlin "Natural" Clogs

Best Barefoot shoes......shoe review!

Berlin Clogs brand   "Natural Clogs"

Last week, I spent the week wearing Berlin Clogs brandNatural Clogs”. Natural just means the color of the upper is not dyed. But with these special clogs, natural as a whole different meaning. These clogs are wonderfully comfortable no matter what the nature of the walker’s natural gait, and they are quite accommodating to a wide foot.
My feet were wide even before I began living Almost Barefoot, and of course, they are now significantly wider. Mainstream shoes are generally too narrow, so clogs and better-quality sandals are my shoes of choice when I must wear them.  Because my feet are also flat, I’m not a very high stepper, but practice high-stepping in these clogs, and you’ll quickly see that they are ideal for folks with high arches who are thus high steppers.
Looking back on our review of Olsson Clogs, we mentioned that one common complaint among clog wearers who have high arches is that the edge of the clog’s upper digs into the top of the foot with each step. Berlin Clogs solved this dilemma by cutting the unique divot in the top of the clog so that the  anterior and longus tendons that conjoin the shin to the foot have room to move freely. When people with high arches stride, these tendons move in a more-pronounced manner than they do for folks with medium arches, or for flatfooters like me.
Berlin Natural Clogs also have an orthopedic toe grip on the foot bed. It is a bit different than that of Olsson Clogs; when one first puts these Berlins on, the toe grip will feel very pronounced, more so than in Olssons, and it is very useful in keeping the clog on the foot, especially when high-stepping.
Like the Berlins that were tested last week, Berlin Naturals have a fairly broad platform slope, so the toe grip is helpful in keeping these loose fitting clogs securely on the feet while walking. But unlike last week’s Berlins, these are very quiet. So if you prefer to make noise, that will be the only let-down of these hand-made German gems.
Almost Barefoot gives Berlin Naturals an A-. They must pass the test of time like the other brands have. We are confident that they will make the grade. It is advisable to order them now if you’d like a pair for fall, as the turn-around time for our order was a full month. But they are well worth the wait, and priced reasonably this season.
Auf Wiedersehen!

Global Barefooter-Barefoot in France

What is the principle of walking the barefoot path?

Its a prerogative that's taking hold all over Europe, and one of the newest barefoot parks is now open in France!

"It’s a current activity in Germany or Austria. The Sentier pieds nus du Lac Blanc is a friendly place for all the family. The 1,2 kilometer path is secure to bare foot walking, but also manage with naturel elements of the woods : pine apple, shaving, barks, stones or sand. During the walk, you will discover the richness of all your senses and the natural environment and inhabitants of the Vosges",

reads the website for France's newest barefoot parks, the Sentier pieds nus du Lac Blanc . It is a anew addition to the larger LeBlanc Adventure Park.

We found the park while researching the perspective of going barefoot in France. It would appear that this European nation's perspective depends largely on the individual and the household where one resides.

We've love to hear more perspectives from our French visitors. Until then, au revoir!
